This year’s GSFL Roundtable is being held in cooperation with the University of York, England. The University of York is one of the world’s leading research institutions. In 2014, the University was ranked 10th in a UK-wide assessment of research quality. The University is also home to one of the world’s leading centers for scholarly research and teaching in Forensic Speech Science (FSS). Devoted to the application of linguistic, phonetic, and acoustic data to court proceedings and legal investigations, the FSS works in close conjunction with the forensic phonetic expert consultants at J.P. French Associates. The research interests of York’s FSS scholars and students cover a wide diversity of topics—from investigating the acoustic and phonetic patterns of speech under conditions of distress and/or deception to exploring variations in lay persons’ perceptions of voice, speech, and dialect.
